Principals’ Profiles

Stanley Howard

Stan is a Representative Director and CEO of Teneo Partners Japan Limited. He is also the Founder and Director of Teneo Partners Limited. He has over thirty years of experience in dealing with Japanese institutional investors. He began his career in the financial industry with Smith Barney where he was responsible for U.S. equity sales to Japanese institutional investors. From Smith Barney, he moved to Morgan Stanley where he joined the foreign equity sales team in Tokyo and subsequently the U.S. equity Japan desk in New York. Prior to founding Teneo Partners, Stan was involved in the hedge fund industry in Japan and Asia, serving as the President for Japan/Asia at Investor Select Advisors, a fund of hedge funds whose investors were principally Japanese financial institutions and private banks located in Asia. He began his work in the alternative investment industry while marketing the Tiedemann Investment Group Funds. Stan has been active in AIMA, the Alternative Investment Management Association, where he served as Vice Chairman for both the Tokyo and Singapore Chapters. Stan was born and raised in Japan and is a native speaker of the language. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

Kazuyuki Umezu

Kazuyuki Umezu is a Representative Director of Teneo Partners Japan Limited. He has had a long career in the securities and asset management business in Japan, spanning four decades. Prior to joining Teneo Partners, he was an Executive Director and the Head of Sales & Marketing for Shinko Asset Management, a predecessor to Asset Management One, the largest asset manager in Japan. His sales and marketing acumen are remarkable and over the years he has demonstrated the ability to navigate through Japanese investment organizations in order to close sales. He guides our sales programs and brings an intelligence to our effort in a way that few others can.
