Geographic Coverage

Teneo Partners operates exclusively as a placement agent and distribution consultant to asset managers. The strategies that we work with span the entire asset class spectrum from traditional mutual funds, hedge funds, CTAs, private equity, real estate and infrastructure.

We specialize in the Asia Pacific region working from our locally registered offices in Japan, Singapore and Australia.

Teneo Partners has its roots in Japan having begun its operation there in 2003. We are one of the few boutique placement agents that have a genuine balance between Western and Japanese professionals in its office. We understand both the Japanese and Western approach to developing and managing business relationships. This means we can read the nuances that are frequently missed by those with less experience in Japan. As a result we are more readily able to bridge the communication gap and produce more effective marketing results.

It is also significant that Teneo Partners is an independent organization that is not tied or associated with any particular financial group in Japan. This allows us to search for the best possible distribution channels regardless of the affiliation of our local counterparties.

Critical to our positioning in the market is the fact that we are one of the very few foreign owned placement agent companies that are fully licensed as a securities company in Japan. Teneo Partners holds both the Type 1 and Type 2 securities broker-dealer license, giving us the ability to market any type of security within Japan. We are also approved to cover financial institutions, pension funds, endowments, corporate investors and individual investors.

Singapore is a growing market for Teneo Partners as funds continue to flow to financial institutions in the country. Although Teneo Partners Singapore Private Limited does not hold a Financial Adviser’s License, we are permitted to market to financial institutions there. Given that Singapore is principally an institutional market we are able to cover most all of the important market segments there. Specifically, our focus segments are the commercial banks, the private banks, the local asset management companies and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.

Australia is an important market for Teneo Partners. The Australian market is the fourth largest mutual fund industry in the world, just after Japan. Pension funds, known locally as Super Funds are not only the primary institutional investors in the Australian market but are some of the largest financial investors in the region. The tremendous growth in assets is due in part to compulsory superannuation or pension policies introduced by the Australian government in the early 1990’s which forced both employers and employees to contribute a high percentage of salary to individuals pension plans.

Both the retail and the institutional players in the market are increasingly looking to offshore asset management products, both traditional and alternative, in order to diversify their portfolios and as a means to acquire return drivers for those portfolios.

Teneo Partners (Australia) Pty Limited, licensed and regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission as an Authorized Corporate Representative, is authorized to: deal in financial products; provide financial product advice; issue, apply for, acquire, vary or dispose a financial product; and apply for, acquire, vary or dispose of financial products on behalf of another.
